One of the toughest football players and wrestlers ever to be at Monache is going into the school’s athletic hall of fame.
Brad Hull, a 1994 Monache High School graduate, will be honored for his remarkable athletic and professional achievements when he’s inducted into the Monache Athletic Hall of Fame on February 22. Raised in Porterville by his parents, Danny and Theresa Hull, Brad’s passion for sports began at a young age. At just 4 years old, he was introduced to Porterville’s Parks and Leisure Activities, where he participated in a variety of sports, including swimming, basketball, baseball, football, and wrestling.
Brad attended Vandalia Elementary and Pioneer Junior High School, where he served as student body president at both schools and became an active participant in every after-school sports program available. During these formative years, he developed a deep love for football and wrestling. As a member of the 1987 Porterville Steelers Flag Football team, he helped secure a State Championship, and as part of the 1989 Porterville Raiders tackle football team, he contributed to a Valley Championship. On the wrestling mat, Brad became a state champion multiple times before entering high school.
Starting at Monache High School in 1990, Brad quickly established himself as an exceptional athlete. He was part of six varsity East Yosemite League championship teams in both football and wrestling. Recognized for his leadership, he was named team captain multiple times and earned honors such as Most Improved and Most Valuable Player across various seasons. Brad’s high school wrestling career culminated in multiple divisional and valley championships, and he qualified for the prestigious CIF state wrestling tournament three times, finishing in the top 12 as a sophomore, 5th place as a junior, and 4th place as a senior. His wrestling success earned him a full-ride scholarship to California State Bakersfield.
At Cal State Bakersfield from 1995 to 1999, Brad pursued a degree in Business (Public Administration) while continuing his wrestling career. He was part of a Division 1 wrestling program that won Pac-10 Championships in 1996 and 1999 and achieved a 3rd place finish at the NCAA tournament in 1996. As a senior, they earned an 8th place finish at the NCAA tournament.
Brad found his true calling in 2000 when he entered the field of education. Over the next 15 years, he taught and coached wrestling at Foothill High School, following in the footsteps of his mentors, Drew Williams and Rich Lambie. Under his leadership, the wrestling teams at Foothill won numerous league titles, achieved top 10 finishes at the valley level, and produced multiple state and national-level wrestlers. After his successful tenure as a coach, Brad transitioned into school administration, first serving as Athletic Director and later as Dean of Students. For the past seven years, he has served as Assistant Principal of Administration at Highland High School.
Brad is grateful to his teachers, coaches, friends, and teammates who have supported him throughout his journey in Porterville and at Monache High School. He extends special thanks to his longtime partner, Brenda, for her unwavering support, as well as to his parents, little sister Michelle, and especially his older brother Brian — who was inducted into the Monache Hall of Fame in 2024 — for always standing by him.
Hull’s legacy is a testament to his dedication, leadership, and passion for fostering the growth of young athletes.
