TRANSYLVANIA COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — A Transylvania County grand jury indicted Ashley Darity, 34, of Brevard, with two counts of felony involuntary manslaughter for the deaths of Rosman High School students and varsity football players, Layne Jones and Jayden Reynaldo.
A law enforcement source confirms that Darity is charged in the case involving obtaining and supplying alcohol to the teenagers who died on August 25, 2024, when they were riding an ATV that slammed into a tree ejecting them both.

She was arrested on the charges but posted the required $20,000 secured bond.

The indictment documents don’t include details of the charges but state that Darity, “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously did kill and slay.” For both the victims’ their names are at the end of that statement in the indictment documents.
“In our time of great grief,” said Sterling Owen, Jone’s sister. “We hope that justice is served to all those involved. The last six months without our precious Layne have been unbearable. We will never get to hug him, see his beautiful smile or hear his contagious laugh ever again. This new information is like reliving the worst day of our lives all over again.”
Last August when News 13 reported on the tragedy, highway patrol investigators reported drugs or alcohol were not suspected in the case.
With the new revelations and potential trial for Darity, more details of what led to the teen’s ill-fated night and crash may come out.

District Attorney Andrew Murray declined to comment on the indictment saying state law prohibits DAs from speaking about pending cases.
No trial date has been set but the case will move forward on the court administrative calendar with pre-trial hearings and proceedings.
