The American Athletic Conference (AAC) released its 2025 football schedules Friday – featuring one of the hardest non-conference slates in USF history and a familiar homecoming foe.
The Bulls will open their 29th season with a home game against Boise State on Aug. 30.
The Broncos won the Mountain West Conference last season and made the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff.
USF will also play in-state opponents Florida on Sept. 6 and Miami on Sept. 13. Both of those games are on the road. The Bulls lost to Miami 50-15 last season.
Boise State, Florida and Miami are expected to be AP ranked teams, according to The Athletic’s Top 25 predictions. USF has never faced three ranked opponents in one season.
The non-conference schedule concludes with a home game against South Carolina State on Sept. 20.
Four games will be played on weekdays – Boise State, Charlotte, North Texas and UTSA.
USF kicks off its AAC slate against Charlotte on Oct. 3, a team it’s had rousing success over the past two years. The Bulls have outscored the 49ers 107-38 in their last two matchups.

USF’s first conference road game will be against North Texas just a week later, the first meeting between the two programs since UNT joined the conference in 2023.
The Bulls’ homecoming game will be against FAU on Oct. 18. The two teams played during USF’s homecoming week in 2023, with the Owls winning 56-14.
USF and Memphis will then face off on Oct. 25, a team that the Bulls have dropped four straight games to.
On Nov. 6, USF and UTSA will play for only the second time in program history. The next two games will be played on the road – against Navy on Nov. 15 and UTSA on Nov. 22.
For the second straight year, USF will close the regular season against Rice. The Bulls lost to the Owls 35-28 last season.

Coach Alex Golesh and USF will return with a healthy third-year starting quarterback Byrum Brown – who broke his leg in the conference opener against Tulane and missed the rest of the regular season.
Several familiar faces are also coming back from injury, including wide receivers Naeim Simmons and Jaden Alexis, who both missed the entire 2024 season.
The Bulls have made two consecutive bowl appearances – winning both. It’s the first time that has happened since two straight postseason wins in 2016 and 2017.
After digging themselves out of the conference basement, the Bulls are now looking to take the next step towards an AAC title, something they have yet to accomplish.
