Nebraska makes changes to 2026, 2027 non-conference schedules

LINCOLN, Neb. (WOWT) – The Huskers have made some changes to their upcoming non-conference schedules in the late 2020s.

In a release sent Friday, the University of Nebraska said the home-and-away series with Tennessee in 2026 and 2027 has been cancelled.

Along with the cancellation, the University says they have made three additions to the 2026 and 2027 non-conference schedules.

“We are making plans to embark on major renovations of Memorial Stadium that may impact our seating capacity for the 2027 season,” Nebraska Director of Athletics Troy Dannen said.

“The best scenario for us is to have eight home games in 2027 to offset any potential revenue loss from a reduced capacity. The additional home games will also have a tremendous economic benefit on the Lincoln community.”

According to the statement, Nebraska replaced their series against Tennessee with games against:

  • Bowling Green
  • Miami (Ohio)
  • Northern Iowa

The statement says the matchups against Bowling Green and Miami (Ohio) are the first in Nebraska Football history.

Nebraska defeated Northern Iowa in their previous matchup in a 34-3 rout earlier this year.

2027 marks the first year Nebraska is set to play eight home games since 2013.

The statement outlines Nebraska’s current non-conference opponents:

  • Arizona
  • Oklahoma
  • Cincinnati
  • Oklahoma State
