On Wednesday, Feb. 12, Monett High School senior Landyn Brandt signed his national letter of intent to continue his academic and football career as a Lion at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. He plans to major in Business Management.
This year was his fourth year as a member of the Cubs varsity football team. During his four years he was awarded 2nd team All- Conference, All-District and All-Area punter (2023), 2nd team All-Conference, All-District and unanimous SWMFCA 1st team wide receiver, 2nd team punter, 3rd team All-O-Zone wide receiver and 1st team All-State wide receiver (2024), he also broke Monett High School’s receiving record finishing the 2024 season at 1089.
Along with football, he also plays baseball and basketball. He is the basketball team captain and recently earned his 1,000th career point.
Brandt said, “I chose MSSU because from the minute I was being recruited the coaches showed nothing but utmost love for me, I loved the campus, the weight room and the facilities. The major thing that brought me in was how much the team had already felt like a family.”
When asked about how he feels about playing at the next level he said, “I am most excited to continue playing football, while also gaining a new brotherhood and family.”
Head football coach, Ben Mauk said, “Landyn’s commitment and signing has been a goal he set for himself a long time ago, and he dedicated himself this past off season in his training and preparation to have a great Senior year. His leadership on our team will be missed, but we are excited that he will have the opportunity to live out his dream of playing football at the next level”. The first player in Mauk’s coaching career to go on to play collegiately he said “I am extremely proud of him; as a football player, but even more so in the person he has become. Landyn would be the first to thank his teammates and coaches from Mighty Mites to high school and we look forward to watching him play at MSSU. Monett is a special place, and Landyn will continue the tradition of excellence as the next Cub to represent our community at the college level.”
