EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) – We’ve seen girls flag football implemented from Washington County to Columbia County and most recently, Richmond County.
It’s the fastest-growing sport in our area.
You can measure growth by state championships and now, signings.
One Columbia County program is sending its second athlete to play the sport at the collegiate level.

Da’Moijah “Dee” Flowers was one of two captains on this year’s Evans girls flag team.
They made history this year, going to the state semifinals for the first time in program history.
That game took three overtimes to get through.
On Wednesday, history was made once again for the program, but it was a little easier.
Flowers is just the second ever in the program’s existence to sign with a collegiate program.

College girl’s flag football is still growing, just like it is at the high school level.
The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) began offering women’s flags in 2021.
At last glance, there were 24 teams in the NAIA and nine colleges that offered the sport in the National Junior College Athletic Association.
Emanuel University is adding to that number this season. Flowers will be on their second roster.
“It’s nice to be the start. Because starting a new sport, a new sport that I’d never heard of before coming from Richmond County. We didn’t have flag football, lacrosse, any of that. And so hearing about it was fun. And then just being a part of building what the little girls now, seeing me do what I do, they want to be just like me,” said Flowers.
