Eddie George talks about TSU QB Draylen Ellis’ leadership qualities

Tennessee State football coach Eddie George is a finalist for the head coaching position at Bowling Green, according to a source. George interviewed for the position Friday.
George also interviewed for the Chicago Bears’ head coaching position in January, after they fired Matt Eberflus 12 games into the 2024 season. That position eventually went to former Detroit Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
Scot Loeffler left after six years as Bowling Green’s coach on Feb. 28 to become the quarterbacks coach for the Philadelphia Eagles. Loeffler led Bowling Green to a 7-6 record and a trip to the 68 Ventures Bowl in 2024 and was 27-41 overall.
George, a Heisman Trophy winner at Ohio State in 1995. was an All-Pro running back for the Tennessee Titans. In 2022 he became the Tennessee State coach and is 24-22 in four seasons.
He led TSU to a 9-4 record in 2024 and its first berth in the FCS playoffs since 2013. The Tigers lost in the first round to eventual national champion Montana 41-27. George was named the Big South/Ohio Valley Conference coach of the year and was runner-up for the Eddie Robinson national coach of the year award.
TSU was 6-5 in 2023; this marked the first time since the 2016-2017 seasons the program posted back-to-back winning records.
In 2021, George signed a five-year contract with TSU for an annual salary of $400,000, which included up to $100,000 per year in incentives.
