SWARTZ CREEK, Mich. (WNEM) – Following back-to-back 3-6 seasons, the Swartz Creek Dragons football team has made a change at head coach.
The new man in charge is a local guy with plenty of experience coaching high school football in mid-Michigan.
Former Carman-Ainsworth head coach Dajuan Massey is the new head football coach for Swartz Creek.
He replaces Joe Spencer, who was head coach for the Dragons since 2016.
Massey spent the last five seasons leading the Cavaliers and was a former assistant for 10 years at both New Lothrop and Hamady.
Massey told TV5 that following his last year with the Cavs, he wasn’t sure if he was going to continue coaching. However, once this position opened up, he said it was just a perfect fit for him.
“There are only a handful of teams in the area who have a total program from the youth on up. So, one of my assistants on my staff, we’ve been together like 15 years, and he said one day, he said, ‘Man, the only way we can come back, if a job like Swartz Creek could open.’ My phone has been blowing up. There’s been a lot of excitement and hopefully we can bring that. That’s our goal. I can tell they’re a tight knit community, so the excitement is going to start there. Just getting everyone involved and then on Friday nights, we can have some fun,” he said.
