Billy McCool of Big Horn has worked awfully hard for a college opportunity to play football and will get his big chance as he signed with Valparaiso University in Indiana. That hard work that McCool put in came on the line of scrimmage as he was a 2A All-State performer on the offensive line as a guard and also played on the Rams defensive line as well.
He was named the 2A Lineman of the Year and recorded 8 pancake blocks per game from his O-Line spot in the 2024 campaign and had 70 of them for the season, including 11 in one half of play vs. Wheatland. Those pancake blocks happen when an offensive lineman overpowers the defensive lineman and takes him to the ground. Needless to say, it’s not easy to do. McCool also has played basketball, golf, and track in his prep career.
His family lineage is full of college athletes as his father played football at Wake Forest and Valdosta State and competed in rugby at North Texas. His grandfather played junior college football in the Chicago area, one great-grandfather played football at the Allen Prep Academy in Byron, Texas and another great-grandfather played junior college basketball in Texas and his great-great uncle was an All-American in basketball at East Texas State.
Valpo is an FCS school that competes in the Pioneer Football League.
