TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – Shawnee Heights star football player Tyren Parker has committed to stay close to home, and play college football for the Kansas Jayhawks.
It’s another big in-state recruiting victory for the Jayhawks in the Class of 2026.
Though Tyren will be playing defensive back in college, he’s proven at the high school level that he’s a playmaker on both sides of the ball.
He finished the 2024 season with nearly 1,200 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. He also recorded 48 tackles and two interceptions.
The 6′3″ 3-star recruit is one of the top recruits in the Sunflower state, and chose KU over offers from K-State, Iowa State, and Oklahoma State.
He told 13 Sports it was the coaching staff that sold him on KU.
“What really drew my eye was their coaches, relationships, and how they speak to me. Coach Samuel is a very great man, he always knows what to do with his players. He’s always got a bond with them, and I like how he does that,” Parker said about the staff who recruited him. “Coach Lance Leipold, he’s a very good man. When he came to my school, he was just chit-chatting with me, he didn’t look at his time, he was just all about me. He only wanted to come to see me.“
As a junior, he has one more year to shine with the Thunderbirds before heading to Lawrence.
